The Pennsylvania Primary: A Push for Mail-in Ballots

Posted OnMay 8, 2020 byJill Horner

Well before a pandemic impacted Pennsylvania, Governor Tom Wolf (D-PA) signed Act 77 of 2019, legislation that allowed residents of the Commonwealth to vote by mail without having to provide a reason. The June 2 Pennsylvania primary, rescheduled from April in response to the coronavirus emergency, will be the first election since Act 77 went into effect. To date, nearly one million people have applied for mail-in and absentee ballots.

While in person voting will continue on June 2, due to the COVID-19 crisis there will be changes to and consolidation of polling locations. Pennsylvania is encouraging more voters to opt for a mail-in ballot and vote safely from home.
