The Client: Independent Expenditure Campaign for a NJ State Senate Race

The Challenge: Ensure a Democratic victory in a purple state senate district.

Project Overview: In the 2021 state legislative cycle, Republicans gained seven seats. Within this climate, Groundwork Strategies worked to create and sustain a dedicated field campaign to elect a Democratic State Senator in a purple district.

Our Tactics: Groundwork Strategies worked to establish a field office that serves as an essential hub of this campaign. We worked to recruit talented field organizers from the community and provided comprehensive training to ensure they were equipped with the necessary tools to succeed. By digging into the data, we pinpointed the perfect group of voters to target, making our canvassing team super efficient. With this intel, we reached out to the folks most likely to back our client’s candidate.

On top of that, we created customized materials such as canvasser scripts, T-shirts, and voter information packets to support outreach efforts. These materials were designed to effectively convey the campaign’s message and facilitate meaningful interactions with voters.

Results: Our client’s preferred candidate won with over 60% of the vote.
